Hiring Us

Behind every theatre is its customers and performances and at the Lyric we love to see people using our venue. This is why our hiring charges are very competitive and flexible. The main house and the studio are available for hire and we are confident that when you see what the Lyric has to offer hiring companies you will choose the Lyric to put on your event.

Hirers are advised that “availability” is only one criterion when considering requests for hire from organisations & companies. Other key criteria include:

Anti-clash & Programme Balance: To avoid similar events appearing too close together;

Business Case: Based on realistic projected attendance figures & income generation;

Audience Development: Appeal to existing audiences and new target groups;

Technical & Physical Factors: Assurance that facilities & staff can comfortably meet the requirements of the event;

Commitment to supporting the sustainable theatres practices: A demonstrable commitment to sustainable green theatre practice & work/life balance of all.

Taken together, the hiring charges & criteria are designed to provide a cost effective, tailored solution to the specific needs of your production. To check availability and an informal discussion, please contact the Programming Unit on 0845 226 3510 between 10am - 4.30pm.

Studio Space

The studio in the Lyric is a new space that was introduced during the refurbishment in 2007. It is a very basic room but it is ideal for workshops and classes. Many of our hiring companies use this space to run through some of their show before going onto the main stage, and when they do move onto the stage they use the studio as another large dressing room. On occasions some hiring companies have used the space to hold their pre-performance reception where they invite guests up for a drink and a chat before they take to their seats.

The Circle Bar

The Circle Bar at the Lyric is a great place to visit before you sit down and enjoy the show, it is a great example of an old fashioned theatre bar. It’s a great place to be in the interval too as you can talk to other audience members about wheat you’ve just seen on the stage, even if you didn’t like what you saw it is good to have a discussion. If yours is a G&T or just a soft drink make sure you pay a visit to the Circle Bar on your next visit to the Lyric.

The Main House

When you enter the Lyric you may think it is a small theatre however you will change your mind when you enter the main house because it is our largest auditorium at Theatrau Sir Gâr. It has three seating levels, the stalls, mezzanine and circle and can seat up to 665, but some of the seats in the circle are slightly restricted. As the Lyric is an old building and we could not change the fabric of the building but we could change some things. To make the auditorium slightly more flexible we made sure that the first 6 rows in the stalls removable, this allows us to programme cabaret events into the space which works brilliantly and has proved successful with shows such as the Bluestocking Lounge.
